Game Summary's

Game 1: 5/18 against Vandals FC. The team started out slow due to it was our first game and some of the players first time playing together. 1st goal was nice shot by Aaron Denny getting past there keeper. Just before half we let a tying goal in to end half with 1-1 tie. Second half we came out a little better we started pressing players so they would make mistakes. We had 5 second half goals with 2 of them being penalty kicks.We had 3 goals from Danny I one from Matt B and one from Michael C. We ended up winning 6-1. Future games I see the team needing to work on player runs and pressing more. We need to get to know each other better. Our next game is at the Warrior Classic Sat against XO from Findlay.

Game 2,3,4: Warrior Classic Won the first 2 by scores 3-1 then 5-0 then lost our very important 3rd game by a score of 3-2. The team didn't seem to want to play. I think they under estimated the other team. I hope the team learned from this.

Game 5: 5/28 against Club Independiente. We started out slow then got on the board with a goal from Nick Filloon. After the first half we seemed like a team that not only wanted to win but destroy the opposition. They started working nice together with just a few defensive mistakes. We ended up winning the game 6-0. The team is looking forward to playing Friday as we play the first place team the Cincinnati Freedom which should be a good game as they haven't lost in the league yet.

Game 6: 5/30 against Cincinnati Freedom. Lost by a score 2-1. We knew it was going to be a hard game. It didnt help us that the refs sucked. We seemed to get all the calls. We got 5 yellows and Freedom got none. Something needs to be done with the ref training. I see refs at high profile games that shouldnt even be refing Youth leagues let alone adults. Hopefully the team learned that the ref's can make a difference. We acutually won the second half after playing a man down for the half. Well we got a good goal on a set piece the Damion kicked to the head of Matt. We are looking forward to Sundays game.

Game 7: 6/1 against Kolping FC. Game ended up with the score tied 2-2. We got 2 nice header goals from Michael Conley. Game started and we got the lead. Kolping came back tied the game then with just a few minutes left into the second half they got a goal on a penalty kick for a hand ball in the box. With 5 minutes left we got our goal off a long throw in to the head of Michael. We missed alot of players for the game had only 15 on the sideline which was less than Kolping. Players are going to half to be more committed if we want to make it to Nationals. Next game Wednesday at Xavier at 7:00 against Losantiville FC.

Game 8: 6/7 against 1790 U-23. Game ended up with the score 5-0 us. We dominated the game against an undermaned 1790. No goalies to start so played with Matt Borland in goal. The team didnt give to hard of a game the other team never really had many chances. Matt Dwyer was ontop of his game with 2 nice goals along with the assist from Tyler. The team is working alot better together it looks like we are going to make a run at regionals. The team also behave better for the refs.

Game 9: 6/8 against Valencia FC. Game ended up with us on top 4-2. Game started out strong from us with a nice clear from Lionel to Michael who headed in the first goal. Then we got 2 goal on a miss pass on there part which Nick Filloon sole and put into the back of the net. The a third happened when Damion sent a nice through ball to Nick F which he finished. Then we stumbled for a little letting Valencia score on a miss defence hit then another on a free kick. We finished the game out with a score from Matt B. The whole team played well together against a very strong Valencia team. This week we have games Wed,Thurs, Friday then again Sunday. We hope to gain 3 more wins next week. Team moved to 4th place with this win and the second best winning percentage.

Game 10: 6/11 against Dynamo FC. The game ended up with us winning 3-1. We came out with the lead on a goal from from Matt B on a nice ball from Tony. When then gave them the lead on a straight red that put us down to 10 players. We fought hard and got a penalty also that was taken by Damion that he put into the right back of the net. We then got a goal from Matt B again when he took a shot that hit the top crossbar bounced right back to him and he put back into the net. This game had the most subs for any game this year. Next game following day against LosantivilleFC.

Game 11: 6/12 against Losantiville FC. The game ended up with us winning 6-1. This game was a makeup from a previously scheduled game cancelled for thunderstorms.The game started really slow with only 12 players showing up. We seemed to dominate the first part of the game but couldnt seem to find the back of the net. We went down a goal on a good shot the flew above the hands of Michael in goal and droped just below the crossbar to give Losantiville the lead. It took a little while but we got on the board when Nick P sent the ball to Tony and went into half with a 1-1 tie. the team showed lack of effort in the first half. The team at half got together and talked about what they needed to do. Second half started and it seemed like we had another team. They started passing better and was able to put the ball in the back of the net 5 more times. We had goals from players that havent scored much this season like Greg, and Eric. It was good to see the team redeam themselves after a horrendous first half. Next game friday against 1819 at Xavier at 9:00.

Game 12: 6/13 against 1819. The game ended up with us on top 8-1. Start of the game was very disappointing as only 11 players showed up. Well lucky we were playing a team at the bottom of the league as we dominated in every aspect. The other team had a goalie that liked to come out which we used are skill and we capitilized on. The scoring started on a penalty in which Nick Filloon was taken down in the box and then he finished the scoring on making the penalty kick. We then just started pushing and got a goal from Tom Gannon. We then finished out the opponent by 3 goals for Tyler Imbrogno and 3 goals from Matt Borland. We have are next game Sunday at Xavier at 7:00 against 1790 U-19 team.

Game 13: 6/15 against 1790 U-19. The game ended up with us on top 5-0. Again we started out slow with only 13 players making it to the game. We got a first half goal on a cross from Nick Filloon to Michael Conley who got it to the back of the net. We went into half with a 1-0 lead. Second half made a few changes due to the lack of players which seemed to help the scoring situation. We got a nice goal when Wes Rasdorf scored on a Greg Gross cross. Then Tom Gannon got into the scoring mix twice with 2 balls given to him by Tony Capurro. We then lost a player to his second yellow so had to play the rest of the second half down a player when Nick F got an unassisted goal. Hopefully more players come Wednesday when we play Wanderers at 9:00 at Xavier.

Game 14: 6/21 against Chromeparts. The game ended up with us losing 0-1. Very close game neither team had many chances. We had 7 shots with only 2 on goal. Its hard to score with ony 2 on goal. They finally scored of corner kick to their player that headed it into goal.

Game 15: 6/21 againt Club Independiente. The game ended up with us on top 3-1. Again the team started out slow. We got first goal from Matt Borland of a pass from John Middendorf. We then let a goal in and went into half 1-1. Came out second half with some changes and scored 2 more goals on a penalty kick that Nick Filloon took and another from Matt B from a cross from Greg. Game ended up with 13 shots with 7 on goal.

Game 16: 6/21 against Valencia CF. The game ended up with us on top 2-0. Very fisical game that it seed like the first goal would win the game. We did get a nice goal on a long cross from Michael Earman to Matt B who snuck the goal under the keepers grasp. Then we got a second goal when Dan I sent a through ball that John Middendorf was able to slot into the back of the net.

Game 17: 6/21 against Rogues. Then game started with a storm coming and ony 13 minutes into the first half was played. We went into Lightning delay tied but having to play the game to see who ended in 2nd place of our group. We needed a tie or win to clinch. Play started back and we came ontop 3-1. great second half on 3 goals from Matt B and 2 assist from Nick Filloon. This game seemed never in doubt as we dominated the entire game. We had 16 shots in which 10 were at goal. Next game semis against Cincinnati Freedom.

Game 18: 6/22 against Cincinnati Freedom. The game ended up with us losing in penalty kicks. This was rematch from league game in which the refs decided who they wanted to win. We got on top with a goal on a penalty that Damion Blackburn put into the back of the net. We then got a chance to take a 2 goal lead from 2nd penalty. Their goal keeper guessed right and make a nice save. We about 20 minutes left we missed clearing a ball in which the other team was able to capitalize on and even the game. The time eneded and we went directly to penalty kicks. Lets just say we need to practice on these.

Game 19: 6/25 againt Arsenal. The game ended up with us on top 6-2. This game started a little different. We got our 1st goal on a thru ball from Matt Borland to Michael Conley. We then got a second goal again from Michael on a cross from John Middendorf. Arsenal came back within a goal. We then started to take it to them and you could see the Arsenal team getting frustrated. We got 2 more goals from Nick Filloon and 2 from Matt Borland. This was a great game to get ready for regionals which starts Friday. We are in a bracket with teams from Wi, Mi, In. If we win our bracket we will have to play the winner in teams from Ky,Illinois, and the NPSL. Our team is going to be strong in Bowling Green and I like our chances. The first game is at 2:00 CST against the Croatian Egles from Wisconson.

Game 20: 6/27 against Croatian Eagles. This game was played on Friday at 2 o’clock during the dead of heat. The temperature was a smeltering 94 degrees and it was extremely hot. The was probably the hottest game this group has played together. I had Pat Baxter come in from Charleston, SC to play with us. He is my friend and UFC’s five year Regional Cup player along with Damion Blackburn. He played as he usually does and that is with all he’s got and winning a lot of balls. Tyler was on the outside running fast. Damion was on the other side outside midfield. We played very well against the Croation team. You could definitely tell they had been playing together and were very good players. We give them respect but we know can beat them. “ We just got to finish and protect the lead at all cost. I need to reiterate something about what UFC represents and that is 100% hard work and represent a dominant pressure. For the most part the majority of the older players and most of the newer players know this about me by now. When you are out on the field you either want the ball to do something with it or you are going after and getting the ball back so we can pressure to win. That is entirely all I am asking of you. I make it this simple so that when we break down the players we can see what type of talent they really have. That also maintains the standards that UFC and what I would like to see. Along with that I would like to see respect among us all. For the most I believe that is what we all have for one another. I bring this UFC standard to attention because when you are at Regional’s you have to hold yourself accountable at all cost for the team concept to work. I had brought 20 to the field but only 18 could dress. The game was tied up and what I saw were a few really bad moves from the defense and it really looked like the energy level was down. The outside mid s were not working with the strength and nor the central mid s. I understand that the flow was butchered and I take that lesson upon myself to learn. What I did see happen is that the play from Ben, Tom , and Nick Filloon worked out well. The player in the central mid was a bad choice I see and I had to readjust and pray to a wonderful God to just keep the score even and get me out of this. The energy plan I had to use to just get us through the fourth quarter worked but we could have won but we just got to finish and protect the lead. One of the few things I ask is that when you go out on the field you make an impact to the team and give the players a boost. We are a UFC team and we have the energy and talent to do well equally as a team and only as a team.

Game 21: 6/28 against the Michigan Canton Celtics : This was the Saturday morning game that was played at 10:30. We had a relaxing night before and we were mentally pumped for this game as each team in our division tied 2-2 and the tournament was up for grabs still but we had to win. The Canton Celtic had a few player’s that were dangerous and were sized and skilled and we played brilliant at times but we made a few errors in the defense and we got beat. The offense had made a few opportunities but we were very unfortunate at times in scoring. I do think that a change needed to happen at half time. UFC players please listen up as I need to get this off my mind and heart and that is my job is to look at what is working and what is not working. I have pressure from every player to come down and play “ a lot “. With that in mind and with the selection I had with me on the bench I am very comfortable to put in players who want to completely sacrifice an average day of playing and play and be totally hungry to get in and make the difference. We were down 1-0 in a game that we absolutely had to win and my choice to switch Tyler Imbrogno was purposeful and deliberate. Tyler to me is an incredible physical specimen that is wickedly fast and could break through. I could have left him in but I chose to sub him and enter Mike Conley. In working with Mike over the past few weeks in letting Mike know what I wanted and the pressure I needed and wins I had to get in the air from him. He drove down Friday night and it was second halve and I knew he wanted to make a difference. What happened next was a coaches and a person’s nightmare to go through and it ended up very unprofessional as a coach and as a team captain. I did not have Damion coming out. He reacted to my calling as if I were insane and stupid and an idiot and I felt like he put me into the disgrace to the soccer world category. I have 21 players to manage and see help UFC win at Regional’s. Guys it was so obvious that we dominate teams but if we cannot finish and not hold the lead then it is only something to improve on and come back next year and claim it all. Once the changes were made with Tony Capurro coming in we made an immediate change in pace and control and with more chance to score and with easier opportunities we just could not finish for the life of us. So now we learn that it was the “US “ that lost at Regional and not any one in particular. When each individual improves with his own control of the skill and his game knowledge it is considerably noticeable and the flow is a joy to be a part of. Just note that please if you want to improve in skill. We lost that game 2-0 and that was our legacy for the 2008 campaign. We play very well against very good teams but now it is time to take that stand and beat them handedly with the no loss mentality.

Game 22: 6/28 against Indiana FC which was played at 4:30. The weather was awesome and the feeling was a bit more free as we wanted to play this game and have fun we thought. Andy made the line up and he played players who had not started and played them more and then put players into positions they normally do not play. After coming home and really looking at the game and purpose we needed to play as we normally do and really push for the win. We lost 2-0 and that should not be the case as that team was really not that great. Again that is my mistake for not sticking to the plan and win as many games as we came down to Bowling Green to do. Next year UFC will play to win all the games with the best for the starting to win . UFC last two years is not good. To that extent, we improved over last year’s team with a tie against the would be Regional Champion Croation Eagles. That means that UFC has not won at Regional Cup play in a couple of years. That to me is something I have to work on and bring UFC back to Championship form.
